Underfloor Heating for Homeowners

Underfloor heating is the ideal heating system for your home. It works by having either a wire or pipe, beneath or within the floor which heats up when the system is on providing radiant heat, evenly distributed through the room. The temperature is comfortable and even and adds warmth and luxury to your home.

At TotalUFH.com our underfloor heating systems are designed for ease of installation and can be tailored to suit the requirements of your project. Offering a full design, supply and installation package we will work with you to ensure your system is as efficient and cost effective as possible, designed around the needs of you and your property.

We are often asked about the cost of installation. Unfortunately, there is no one size fits all answer because the cost of installation will depend on the system you select. However, you can be assured that we always work with you to identify the best solution based on the running time, heat output and the size of the area. You will also need to select a thermostat to control the system which is sold separately to the heating system.

FAQ

  • What heating source can I use?

    • Warm water underfloor heating can be installed alongside your traditional gas or oil boiler, or a condensing boiler. Whether you have a gas or oil boiler, because underfloor heating systems distribute heat more evenly, they don’t need to heat the water to as high a temperature as traditional radiators.

Alternatively it can be paired with a renewable energy source such as heat pumps, biomass, solar pv or solar thermal. Heat Pumps, either air source or ground source are arguably the most efficient way to power your underfloor heating system as they efficiently produce water at the ideal temperature for underfloor heating.

  • How efficient is underfloor heating?

    • Underfloor heating operates at lower temperatures than traditional radiators, making it more efficient. When compared to a radiator only system, underfloor heating is estimated to be 25% more efficient when paired with a condensing boiler and up to 40% more efficient when paired with a heat pump. *EuRay, 2005

  • Is my property suitable for Underfloor heating?

    • In the UK, all new properties have to meet strict guidelines on insulation and air tightness and will certainly be suitable for underfloor heating. However older properties can have underfloor heating too, thanks to retrofit and overlay solutions.

  • Is underfloor heating expensive to install?

    • When considering an underfloor heating system you will need to think about the costs of installation. However these tend to pay for themselves in a fairly short period of time through increased efficiency and energy savings.

  • What types of floor covering can be used with underfloor heating?

    • Underfloor heating is often associated with tile, stone or wooden flooring. Whilst these are some of the most popular floor types to be used, underfloor heating is actually really versatile and can be used underneath a wide range of floor types, including carpet, laminate and vinyl flooring.
